Football Season Review

№3: Milton Keynes Dons

Following their shock relegation to League Two a year ago, the Dons entered the new campaign after a summer of wholesale changes with their only goal being promotion. Paul Tisdale was eventually able to deliver a return to the third tier in the most dramatic way imaginable, as his side beat Mansfield on the final day of the season to leapfrog the Stags in the table and claim the final direct promotion place. While Tisdale is known for his passing, attacking-minded brand of football, the Dons were not a side fully molded in his image, as they were more solid at the back but less potent going forward than Tisdale's sides usually are. The Dons led the league going into the second half of the season, but the festive period saw them suffer a string of injuries that threatened to derail their entire campaign. While never really recapturing the form from earlier in the season, the Dons eventually got used to playing without the missing players and managed to get just over the line. While Tisdale will receive a lot of praise for delivering promotion at the first time of asking, the Dons spent the majority of their short history battling for promotion to the second tier and their boss will be expected to deliver another promotion push next season.
