Football Season Review

FC Dallas enjoyed a decent first season under Luchi Gonzalez, just about achieving their minimum expectations of making it to the playoffs but were unable to progress past the first knockout round where they lost out to eventual MLS Cup winners Seattle Sounders. It was a decent campaign overall for Dallas who started and ended the season on a positive note but lacked the consistency to emerge as genuine challengers for the upper spots in the Western Conference. They did need a late surge in form to secure a place in the top seven and, despite a dip in form right at the end, where they picked up just five points from final five games, it was enough to secure them the seventh and final playoffs spot with a game to spare. There was not much improvement in terms of general play for Dallas though they did end the current campaign nine points and three places worse off compared to the last season. Michael Barrios was once again their key player, leading the assists charts while also chipping in with five goals but finding a reliable goal scorer continues to be a problem for Dallas. Their top scorer ending the season failing to reach the double figure for a third time in last four years and that is something they will need to fix if Dallas are to have hopes of making it far in the playoffs next season.
