It has been a turbulent season for Thun, with the end result being they will be playing second tier football for the first time since 2010.
Ending the first half of the season at the bottom of the table, the repeatedly struggled to turn their nice play into goals and therefore results. All of that changed after the winter break, as they turned their stadium into a fortress and also managed to get a few away results, therefore easily beating Xamax in the fight to avoid finishing bottom.
However, they were eventually pipped by Sion for 8th place, with this resulting in them facing Vaduz in the play-offs and being relegated after suffering a 5:4 aggregate defeat.
With relegation only recently being sealed, the club's board are analysing the campaign and a decision regarding Marc Schneider's future is yet to be made. The Thun manager already had a couple of close escapes in the battle to keep his job. It remains to be seen whether his ties to the club and the attractive brand of football that he brings will be enough for him to stay at the helm and be trusted with returning Thun to the top flight.
