Football Season Review

№16: Oldham Athletic

Oldham spent the entire season in midtable, never looking capable of a push for the top six and never looking under serious threat of relegation. Despite having his critics, Paul Dickov has to be given a reasonable amount of praise, due to the fact that he had to deal with a bizarre injury situation, as he had at least five potential starters missing from September onwards. The Latics stayed true to the physical football they played in the previous season, but it was difficult for Dickov to properly utilize his ideas as he was never capable of fielding a settled starting eleven, while the injury situation left him without available central midfielders between January and March. The signings Dickov made in order to boost his side's ability to compete were mostly good - Robbie Simpson was a key player whenever fit, Reece Brown proved a fantastic signing, while Keanu Marsh-Brown also offered something different with his pace. Eventually, the Latics managed to just cross the finish line but fans will surely be left wondering what would've been had Dickov had anything remotely close to his full strength side available during the majority of the season. We are going for Alex Cisak as the Player of the Season for the simple fact that none of the other consistent performers had played enough games.
