Osasuna had another year finishing in mid-table. After a 10th place finish last year, they have finished 11th in 2020/21.
For a while, it didn’t look like it would be such a comfortable campaign. Between matchdays 12 and 19, they were inside the relegation zone and lacking ideas.
But, things turned around over February, March and April. There wasn’t a dramatic change that led to the upturn in form. It was minor tweaks and the fact they then benefited from some momentum once things started going in the right direction again.
For this, coach Jagoba Arrasate deserves a lot of credit and the club deserve credit too, because at no point did they consider sacking him. They trusted in his ideas and it paid off.
Individually, Sergio Herrera had a good season in goals, while it was Ante Budimir firing in the goals up front. However, Budimir was on loan from Real Mallorca and Osasuna might not be able to keep him.
The good news, though, is that their star striker Chimy Avila returned towards the end of this season from a knee injury that kept him out for over a year. If he can get back to the dynamic player he was, then Osasuna have a lot to be excited about for next season too.
