Paderborn's stay in the Bundesliga proved to be a short one as they were relegated straight back to the 2.Bundesliga after a disappointing campaign that saw them finish at the bottom of the table.
Paderborn went into the campaign as favorites to be relegated and they struggled right from the start, picking up a solitary point from their first eight games. Paderborn were putting up a good fight in each match but were let down at both ends of the pitch, ending the campaign with the second worst attacking record and conceding the most number of goals in the Bundesliga.
A brief run of good form midway through the campaign raised hopes of Paderborn lifting themselves out of the relegation zone but they did not manage to get above 17th place once they had dropped to the foot of the table by matchday 4, with their relegation mathematically confirmed with games to spare.
Winter signing Dennis Srbeny emerged as a key player for Paderborn, providing a threat in the attack, but it was Sebastian Schonlau who was their most consistent player despite Paderborn's dismal defensive record. Paderborn will need to improve at both ends of the pitch next season if they are to secure a promotion back to the Bundesliga next season
