Words can't describe just how dominant and impressive Celtic have been this season in their maiden season under Brendan Rodgers, winning the treble and doing it without losing a single game.
The Northern Irishman took over a wreck under previous manager Ronny Deila, and whilst he made some big signings in the summer, it's the improvement in many already there that has been most marked. Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele were the big names to arrive at Parkhead in the summer, whilst Rodgers allowed the likes of Stefan Johansen and Charlie Mulgrew to depart for England. Sinclair scored in his first seven league games to set a record, but it was Celtic's generally dominant displays that captured the imagination of supporters. The improvements in the likes of Stuart Armstrong and Callum McGregor was a massive part of how Celtic operated this season. Those two, as well as captain Scott Brown, really drove Celtic on from the midfield.
It's ironic that the season started with probably the most embarrassing result in Celtic's history - a 1-0 defeat to Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar in their first Champions League qualifier. However, Celtic easily dispatched them at Parkhead and grew in confidence to quality for the group stages. The group campaign wasn't as successful. They picked up just three points, with a draw away to Borussia Monchengladbach and two impressive stalemates against Manchester City. All three of those performances were positive for the Celtic fans, but they also suffered a heavy 7-0 loss to Barcelona at the Nou Camp and they ended bottom of a tough section.
Between August and December, Celtic had went on an astonishing unbeaten run that seen them overpower arch-rivals Rangers three times in three games, a feat they repeated against closest challengers Aberdeen. Added to that, Celtic had wrapped up the Betfred Cup without conceding a goal - beating Rangers 1-0 in the semi-final and Aberdeen 3-0 in the final respectively. Celtic went on to wrap up the league title in early April, and they powered their way to the end of the league campaign drawing just four games in total and suffering no defeats. The treble was secured with the Scottish Cup as the Hoops again beat their two main rivals, Rangers and Aberdeen, in the semi-final and final respectively.
It was a sensational season for Celtic under Rodgers, and the challenge for him now will be to improve the squad and really make their mark in the Champions League next season.
