Football Season Review

Champions: Celtic

It was another season to remember for Celtic as they secured the double-treble with a succession of domestic trophies, despite a dip in performances from last season. A strong start to the campaign saw Celtic go right through until December without losing a game - beating Rangers and Aberdeen in their two early-season top of the table clashes. However, this was mixed with some lacklustre Champions League group stage performances after impressively qualifying for the competition for the second year in a row last August. A 4-0 defeat at Tynecastle signalled the end to Celtic's 69-game unbeaten run, and also signalled a bit of a patchy run of form. Celtic suffered defeats to Kilmarnock, Hibernian, and Aberdeen before the end of the season - with the last defeat coming on trophy day. That Celtic didn't win three league games in a row all season showed the inconsistency in performances. However, whenever continuous questions were asked of Celtic ahead of big games against Rangers or Aberdeen, and even the Scottish Cup final against Motherwell - the Hoops answered with aplomb and put their rivals to the sword to ensure they took all three domestic trophies for the second season running. The challenge for Brendan Rodgers over the Summer will be to hang onto his key players. Rogic signing a new five-year contract was a great start, but question marks still hover over the future of Dembele, Boyata, and Armstrong. With Roberts heading back to Manchester City and Edouard's signing still to be confirmed by the club, it looks like another summer of tweaking for Rodgers.
