Football Season Review

№9: St. Polten

St.Polten entered the season with a great deal of uncertainty surrounding them - they had a new man in charge in Alex Schmidt and were unable to bring in any players, due to a transfer ban they were given. As a consequence, they had a rather difficult first half of the season, with their hopes being to hang in there and stay reasonably close to safety until the winter, when they would be allowed to bring in new signings. And bring in new signings they did - several new players arrived during the winter break, with striker Cory Burke in particularly impressing with some of his displays. However, the new signings did not really help the Wolf Pack turn their fortunes around and their board opted to react, parting ways with Schmidt in March. Short-term appointment specialist Robert Ibertsberger took over and once again worked his magic - St.Polten considerably improved under him and secured their survival with a couple of games to spare. St.Polten have therefore secured another season in the top flight, which is obviously a success for a club of their size and stature. Ibersberger's current deal runs until the summer of 2021 so it will be very interesting to see what he can produce over an entire season.
