Cohesion levels will be strong at FC Sion this season because barely anything has changed from their roaring Challenge League title success in 23/24. It was generally perceived that they were relegated from the Super League in 22/23 with a squad good enough to still be playing in the Super League but a lack of fight, togetherness, and general direction as a club meant that they were ultimately relegated. They've still got a number of those players so they should be able to compete well enough at this level. Scoring goals should not be an issue for FC Sion. Sorgic knows the Super League very well by now, and they've added Djokic to their attack, who was superb in the Challenge League last season. With Bouchlarhem, Chouaref, and Berdayes loading the bullets for them to fire, FC Sion should be able to do plenty of damage. Baltazar will contribute too - one disaster from the 22/23 season was deploying the midfielder at left-back, which has thankfully now changed. Liam Chipperfield (son of FC Basel great Scott Chipperfield) is a good impact sub too. There are some issues with other areas of their squad though. There's no proven understudy for goalkeeper Mayulu, for example. They signed Sow to help out in defence because they can only rely upon Schmied and veteran Ziegler at CB - there's still not enough depth there, although a long-standing familiarity between Sow and the manager will help. They're also short of a backup RB if Lavanchy is out. Depth is going to hurt them at some point. They also look short of numbers at CDM. They've got Baltazar and Kabacalman to call upon but nothing in reserve that would be good enough for this level, especially not since Poha was moved on. They need to focus on adding more squad players if they're to endure this campaign because the Super League fixtures tend to come in short, sharp bursts - and FC Sion are ill-prepared for such. Relegation should not be a worry for FC Sion but their focus this season should be on keeping their place in the division. Expect the unexpected with them, though - crazy owner Constantin is never far away from making the headlines with his outbursts and controversial calls.
