With coach Alfons Groenedijk in charge for the third campaign in a row, ADO Den Haag reached another quiet safety but, unlike the past season, they had no coda to be played before the holidays.
Having failed to stretch a positive run for more than 4 games, ADO Den Haag were never at risk of relegation but, just as well, they seemed to be bound to a bottom 9 finish. 3 wins in the last 3 games of the campaign made them get just 1 step away from the Europa League playoffs, though, but the goal difference was not on their side.
ADO Den Haag certainly performed better in the second half of the campaign as they obtained 25 points, 5 more than in the first half. Not just that. In fact, they scored 35 goals, 12 more than in the first one. Wins over Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar, two top 4 sides, and an impressive 6-2 success over Willem II undoubtedly were the peaks of their campaign.
On the other hand, they were far too fragile against the two dominators of the Dutch football, Ajax and PSV, as they conceded 20 goals overall, scoring only 3, in just 4 games.
Nasser El Khayati was by far the hero of their campaign with 15 goals scored and 11 assists served, even though he failed to be consistent.
If ADO manage to confirm most of their squad, coach Alfons Groenedijk might be able to repeat all the good done since arrival in Den Haag.
