Feyenoord season was one charachterised by a few successes and as many disappointments.
In fact, their campaign started off with a Johann Cruyff Schaal triumph over PSV and an early elimination from the Europa League by unknown AS Trencin. They never really fought for the Eredivisie title: they made the third spot in week 4 and then maintained it until the very end, falling down to the 4th place only for two weeks (27-28) after their worst run of the season, a 3-game winless stretch. A long way from the top 2.
Feyenoord were the third best Eredivisie side both in terms of goals scored, 75, and goals conceded, 41, and the peak of their season is certainly represented by the 6-2 home win over Ajax at the beginning of January. However, they lost too many games comparing to the other title contenders, 9, and, in particular, they were inexplicably defeated by De Graafschap and Excelsior, the two sides involved in the relegation playouts.
Robin Van Persie was the hero of the campaign with 16 goals scored and 4 assists but he was too often plagued by injuries and eventually had to announce his retirement.
With Van Persie retired and Steven Berghuis, responsible for 12 assists and 12 goals, likely going for pastures new in the new campaign, Feyenoord are bound to lose most of their firepower. They do not seem likely to fight for the Eredivisie title in the next season.
