It was a historic season for Bayern Munchen who reclaimed their status as the premier team in Germany by breaking a number of records and became the first German team to claim the historic treble of league, domestic cup and the Champions League. Having lost the Bundesliga title to Borussia Dortmund in the previous two seasons, Bayern made their intentions clear even before the season started, spending nearly €70 million to bring in Javier Martinez, Mario Mandzukic, Dante and Xherdan Shaqiri. The season started on a perfect note for Bayern as they beat Dortmund in the Super Cup before breaking the first of the records as they notched up eight wins at the start of the season before suffering their only defeat in the league to Bayer Leverkusen. That defeat triggered a slump in form as Bayern dropped points against Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach before the start of the winter break. However normal service resumed after the break as Bayern went on a 14-game winning streak to wrap up the league title in record time with six games to spare. Victory over Dortmund in the quarter final of the DFB Cup left Bayern as clear favorites to lift a third domestic trophy while they also exposed Barcelona's lack of a Plan B by securing a convincing 7-0 aggregate victory in the semi finals. Bayern then defeated Dortmund for a third time this season to lift the Champions League trophy at the Wembley Stadium before securing their 16th DFB Cup title with a victory over Stuttgart. Franck Ribery had another excellent season for Bayern while Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos also impressed. However it was Thomas Muller who emerged as a key player for Bayern with the German international creating 11 goals and scoring 13, including against Juventus, in both the legs against Barcelona and in the DFB Cup final. Bayern have already started preparations for the next season with Josep Guardiola confirmed as the coach in place of the departing Jupp Heynckes while the club has also confirmed the signings of Mainz's Jan Kirchhoff and Mario Gotze from Dortmund.
