When they started their season, Brescia perfectly knew that their campaign would have been a difficult one. In fact, they were returning to the top flight after a five-year-long absence, the squad had been created in the very final minutes of the transfer season and coach Iachini's experience in Serie A had not been a particularly positive one. Nevertheless, they offered an array of positive performances that, in September, led them among the top teams. But it was just an illusion for things immediately got tougher. Several defeats in a row made Brescia fall down the table in the relegation zone. Quite unavoidably, in December Iachini was sacked and replaced by Beretta. Despite a positive beginning, Beretta was not bound to last long. In fact, he had hoped to save the team by adopting a different playing system but this led the players in a deeper confusion instead. Iachini's return seemed to be bringing a shot of self-confidence to the players, who offered some positive performances against some top teams like Inter, Napoli and Juventus. But it was just a flash in the pan for the team was simply unable to win and eventually ended up being relegated. With only 34 goals scored, Brescia had one of the worst attacks of the Serie A and it was evident during the whole season. In fact, too often they threw the the whole three points away because of such a problem. Kone, Hetemaj and a few more interesting young players had the chance to debut during the season while Diamanti failed making the difference when he was expected to.
