After the disastrous season with Ferrara and, later, Zaccheroni in charge, Juventus hoped to be heading for glory with Delneri and a whole new group of players and managers. Up until the end of December, apart from being out of the Europa League, Juventus were still fighting for the Scudetto, they were also a real scoring machine and they were offering one of the best play of the Serie A. Then, after the Christmas break, things changed completely. An array of serious injuries depleted the squad, in particular Quagliarella's, De Ceglie's and Iaquinta's, and Delneri seemed to be unable to react to the crisis that had got hold of his team. Too tactically rigid, Delneri stuck to his 4-4-2 formation while Juventus kept falling down the table. The team started reacting properly only after the beginning of March. Thanks to a not-so-irresistible positive streak, they came real close to the top four, thus giving the illusion of a renaissance. But it was just an illusion for they started wasting several fundamental points equalising incredibly against some not-so-unbeatable teams, that is Cesena, Catania and Chievo Verona, and thus they ended up being excluded from the European competitions. Even worse than the previous season. For sure, Quagliarella and Matri proved to be two of the best players of the season, together with Captain Del Piero. On the other hand, Bonucci, Martinez and Motta were far from impressive. However, Krasic really made the difference when he was in-form and Juventus' fall depended also on his physical fall. The incredible number of injuries occurred, as in the previous seasons, certainly poses a problem for what regards the training systems and locations.
