Football Season Review

№12: Dundee

It's relegation for Dundee in perhaps their most disappointing season ever in Scotland's top flight. They never gathered any momentum, and despite having three different managers in one season, they never had the quality to see it through. Neil McCann had totally revamped the squad in the summer. No less than 13 players were brought in this summer, but crucial individual mistakes at the back were costing them. McCann won just one of his first nine matches of the season, including a weak 3-0 home defeat to Ayr United in the League Cup. He was sacked, and Jim McCintyre came in. Unsurprisingly, this led to another January revamp, where McIntyre brought in a further 11 players and tried to ship out many of McCann's recruits. It was too much overhaul, and Dundee struggled to ever have a solid system of playing. There were so many aspects of Dundee's play that needed fixing and never was. They were consistently toothless going forward, failed to pick a consistent XI, and constantly made errors at the back through either individual mistakes or poor understanding. So it's the Championship next season for Dundee. Nobody can hold their head high, and another huge overhaul awaits. A new managerial appointment is still to be made. As it stands, everything is up in the air at Dens Park.
