Once again St Johnstone went under the radar with another solid campaign, as the core of their team continues to impress.
It's also been a season of transition in term of Saints' style. Often known for being a gritty, battling side who make the most of their rare chances - Saints have changed it up. The idea was to sign more pace down the flanks to help them play the ball on the deck with speed.
This season, it's helped down the left. Matthew Kennedy has been a sensation with his drive and directness, but it hasn't all been good as both Michael O'Halloran and Drey Wright have flopped down the right. The football has been hit-and-miss. Sometimes Saints are on fire and playing fluent, passing football. Other times they're back to being dogged and trying to frustrate the opposition.
Too many of Tommy Wright's signings haven't had the desired effect. Sean Goss, Ross Callachan, Wright, O'Halloran, Niall Keown, David McMillan, and Trystan Nydam all failed to impress. But it's been that same core of David Wotherspoon, Liam Craig, Richard Foster etc that has got them through.
Wright will likely continue looking to change the football dynamic at McDiarmid Park. He's made a lukewarm start to it, but it's going to be a long-term process. Saints finished best of the bottom half this year, but Wright will have his eyes on a top-six finish next season as another busy summer awaits.
