Dynamo’s turbulent season logically saw them relegated and given the wooden spoon for finishing last. Having by far the weakest attack in the division, just 32 goals scored, dealing with neo-Nazi issues amongst their fans all autumn and then having to play literally every other day after the COVID-break due to positive cases in the squad practically left no chance of survival.
Back in October and November major neo-Nazi problems erupted in Dresden, the mayor was close to shutting down the entire city indefinitely, with many of the aggressors Dynamo fans. The players were definitely affected by all that as they lost 7 of 8 games during these months, with their top scorer from the previous season Kone (Senegalese) not playing well and expectedly leaving in January.
The other decisive moment were the positive COVID-19 tests right before the season resumed, which saw Dynamo forced to play the 9 remaining games in the space of just 27 days.
Cristian Fiel started the season in charge but in December he resigned and Markus Kauczinski replaced him. Both managers never found solutions to improve the attack, with things in defence not very good either.
It would be hard to praise anyone in the squad after such poor season, but on all the toothless forward displays at least captain Ballas was turning up for every match and was doing his best to organise the back line.
With the city of Dresden still ripped by racial issues and the huge financial blow caused by COVID-19 the future for Dynamo looks grim. Already more than a dozen players said they will be leaving the club this summer.
