Koln return to the Bundesliga as champions of the second division after a dominate campaign. The Billy Goats scored the most goals and won the most games with their strength of the squad getting them over the line.
With Simon Terodde, Jhon Córdoba and Anthony Modeste on their books, Koln consistently poised a great threat in the final third and they scored three or more goals in fourteen games over the season.
Terodde (29) and Córdoba (20) finished the season as the league’s top two goal scorers.
Key to Koln successes was new signings Dominick Drexler, Louis Schaub and Johannes Geis in midfield while Timo Horn and Jonas Hector were rewarded for staying present with the club.
Markus Anfang was surprisingly sacked towards the end with only three games remaining after four games without a win. Interim manager André Pawlak sealed promotion in his first game and soon the title.
Koln have named Achim Beierlorzer as their new manager for their return to the Bundesliga and they need to invest in proven players to stay in the division.
Terodde has previously struggled to step up in the German top flight and bringing in players with Bundesliga experience will do no harm.
