Football Season Review

№6: Holstein Kiel

Holstein Kiel failed to build on last season, but built their reputation as a decent outfit in the second tier. After a strong start to the season, their promotion chances drifted away after the winter break and had to settle for sixth place. Kiel often made quick starts to games and goals came from across the pitch. Their pace on the flanks caused problem for sides all season with winger Lee Jae-Sung topping their assist list. Any hope of promotion fell away towards the end of the season as their form dropped off. Manager Tim Walter often chopped and changed his starting line and his formation which seemed to disrupt their rhythm. A broken leg to captain David Kinsombi over the winter break followed by further injuries did not help as their form became very inconsistent. While, Kiel will be disappointed not to challenge for promotion, they continue to improve their reputation and play some of the best attacking football in the division. However, it is all change for next season. Walter is off to Stuttgart and a number of key players are leaving the club which includes Kinsombi. Kiel need to make the right appointments and get players into fill the voids.
