Football Season Review

№6: Hannover

Hannover will be disappointed not to have challenged for promotion given the quality of their squad, but after a poor first-half of the season they did well to finish in the top six. It wasn’t to be a good start to the campaign, manager Mirko Slomka was shown the door in early November after recording just 3 victories from their first 12 matches, home form especially suffered, losing 3 and drawing 4 of their opening 7. New appointment Kenan Kocak steadied the ship slightly but they remained inconsistent into the new year, performances did start to improve though and the return of central defender Timo Hubers from injury provided a significant boost. The two month break for the pandemic would work in their favour, Kocak found more balance in his side as results improved, not playing in front of their own supporters lifted the pressure and they would go on to win 5 of their last 6 home games. They also improved immensely going forward, scoring 26 times in their final 11 games, Marvin Ducksch would benefit the most from Kocak’s more offensive style and netted 9 times in 9 games at the end of the season. Hannover are now moving in the right direction again after struggling for some time. They need to strengthen a bit in some areas but should be ready to mount a decent promotion challenge next season.
