Elgin City endured one of their most disappointing seasons in years as they finished in a lowly 8th place in the table under manager Gavin Price.
The Highlanders were always challenging for the play-offs under Price’s predecessor, Jim Weir, and despite remaining on the cusp of the top five until Easter, a second half slump saw them win just two of their last dozen league games and record their worst finish since 2014.
Striker Shane Sutherland’s return from a long-term knee injury failed to galvanise the side, and his departure for Peterhead in January came as no surprise. Replacing such a prolific marksman was always going to be a challenge and he finished as leading scorer with 11 goals. His nearest challengers were defender Darryl McHardy and midfielder Brian Cameron, who both finished with nine goals.
It was another story of woe at the other end with 67 league goals conceded, despite the best efforts of loan goalkeeper Kyle Gourlay. Despite seemingly going backwards under Price’s tenure, there appears to no moves to replace him, and he is set to continue in the job for next season.
Whilst McHardy and Cameron are committed to the club for next season, Price will need to find a replacement for Captain Jon-Paul McGovern, who emigrated to Spain; stopper Gourlay, who has returned to parent club Dundee; and full-back Jordan Lowdon, who will join Stirling Albion this summer.
