Eupen kicked off the new campaign with optimism about building towards a stronger and more cohesive outfit that stayed out of relegation trouble.
In his second season in charge, Benat San Jose was emboldened to play a more flexible tactical system and often switched from three at the back to four at the back and vice-versa in games. He also handed opportunities to young players and the likes of Ignace N'Dri and Emmanuel Agbadou certainly improved as the season went on and contributed to the team.
It was a decent but somewhat frustrating start as the Pandas dropped points on too many occasions while being the better side and found it hard to get wins. Indeed, they won just once in the first eight and just twice in the first 12 but never really seemed like a side that is going to get mired in relegation trouble, mostly because of the quality of their attacking players.
Smail Prevljak certainly emerged as one of the more consistent attackers in the league as the season went on and the likes of Julien Ngoy and Amara Baby had good contributions too as the team improved in form during the winter, going on a five-game unbeaten run.
2021 did not start that well for San Jose's side as the busy schedule caught up with them but they always had enough points to be calm about their place and the final two months of the season passed on without really too much happening.
The team had a good run in the Cup in February and March but eventually missed out on a place in the final after a loss to Standard Liege.
San Jose and the club decided to part their ways at the end of the campaign though and the club will look for a brighter and more exciting future with Luis Garcia as the next coach.
