With the previous season suspended due to COVID it was chaotic summer in Belgium and OH Leuven found out literally 11 days before the 2020/21 campaign begins in which division they will play.
Being added to the top flight so late in the transfer window saw Leuven still able to strengthen the squad with 6-7 quality new signings, but they failed to offload any of the players not wanted and this saw unmanageable group of 40+ players making it difficult for the gaffer all campaign.
Coach Brys has rich experience at this level and very quickly Leuven showed that they are in the division to play after opening the campaign with 4 wins and just 2 defeats in first 8 rounds.
All season Henry, Mercier and Sowah shone in attack for Leuven with the trio directly involved in over 71% of the goals scored. Henry was particularly impressive with the way he stayed effective from start to finish as lone leader of the attack.
After 5 wins in December and January Leuven even climbed in the top 3 and they looked well on course to a play-off participation. However, from February onwards the form dropped dramatically and with just 2 more wins achieved in the last 12 rounds Leuven missed out on the play-offs. Amongst main reasons for this poor run late on was the fact that the 2 main centre-backs Schuermans and Kotysch were out injured, with captain Duplus and important holding midfielder Maertens also bitterly missed for the same reason.
The main goal this summer would be to offload at least 10-12 unwanted players, but also to keep the stars that impressed.
