Furth gained promotion to the Bundesliga for only the second time in their history. The Cloverleaf surprised everyone with their free-flowing attacking football, eventually finishing runners-up to Bochum.
A promotion push wasn't really expected at the start of the campaign as Furth failed to win any of their first 4 games, however, the team grew in confidence after their first victory and they briefly topped the table after 5 straight wins.
Coach Stefan Leitl had his side playing quick attacking football and they went on to score 69 goals in 34 matches, only second to Hamburger. They also lost just 6 games all season and boasted the best away record, winning 9 on their travels and losing just twice.
It looked as though Furth would have to settle for a promotion play-off but on the final day things changed, challengers Kiel lost and Furth came from behind to beat Dusseldorf despite only having ten men.
Many players stood out over the course of the season, Nielsen and Hrgota scored 27 goals between them, while Ernst and Seguin both netted 7 each from midfield.
Left-back Raum racked up the most assists in the league with 13 and young defensive duo Bauer and Jaekel came of age in central defence.
It is going to be a tough ask for Leitl and his men next season but you expect them to have a real go. The lack of resources compared to the other clubs could be a problem but their reliance on bringing youth through the ranks has worked well so far.
