Football Season Review

№21: Rotherham United

Rotherham United may have only been one place above the relegation zone but they can consider their first season back in the Championship a total success. They flirted with the drop throughout the entire campaign and when they were docked three points close to the finish for fielding an ineligible player they looked in big trouble. But Steve Evans and his side have consistently shown character, able to perform better against the bigger sides, and did enough to get the points they needed amid scenes of delight. Although not finding a prolific goalscorer (Matt Derbyshire was top scorer with 10) and only scoring 46 times overall, the Millers had enough about them to finish the job. They will again be expected to struggle next term but if Evans can get the same out of his side in terms of effort they have every chance of surviving again. That said he is likely to need to invest over the next couple of months as Rotherham often lacked a degree of class.
