Reading endured a disappointing 2023/24 season. Ownership issues hung overhead throughout the course of the campaign, though The Royals did manage to escape survival, finishing 17th. Manager Ruben Selles remains in the job, though he will have no new players to call upon as of yet. Reading cannot sign any new faces until their takeover is complete. Former Wycombe Wanderers owner Rob Couhig is close to being named new owner of Reading. That could instil a new confidence and belief throughout the whole club if it is complete soon. Reading have done well to keep a core group of their squad together despite the off-field issues. Azeez, Knibbs, Wing, Savage and captain Yiadom form a solid core of players to build around. Injuries weren't kind to Reading last season, while they have also lost some depth in the transfer market. These could be two potential weaknesses for the Berkshire side. Reading kick off the season with a brutal opening three games. Come through the first few weeks with some decent points on the board and Royals fans may start to believe again.

Target

A top half finish. With new owners imminent, The Royals will be looking to push up the League One table. Reading have an outside chance at being in the play-off mix if they can avoid major injuries.
