Wigan Athletic finished a disappointing 2023/24 season strongly to sneak into the top half of the League One table. Points deductions didn't help their confidence in the early parts of the campaign. Manager Sean Maloney remains in charge, as the club look to get ahead of the financial issues that plagued them last term. Positive signings have been made in the form of talented loanees Hugill and Ramsay. The Tics have kept a core group of players together, including standout keeper Tickle, defender Hughes and midfielder Aasgaard. These key faces will be at the forefront to any success Wigan may have. Wigan have good depth in several key areas. They look particularly strong in defence, while Maloney will have many different options to choose from in the final third. Their first-choice midfield is also stacked with quality. High player turnover could be an issue. The Tics lost many of their fringe players from last term. Their new additions may need time ot settle into their new surroundings. Wigan have a kind start to the season. They'll be looking to start well and set the tone for a positive campaign.

Target

A play-off place. It may be a long shot, though Wigan Athletic will have an outside chance at promotion if they perform to their best. More realistically, they may have to settle for a top-half finish.
