Shrewsbury had by far the weakest attack in League One last season, only 35 goals scored in 46 rounds. However, numerous 1:0 wins meant that the Sallops stayed out of trouble and secured safety long before the season finished. The managerial change in early January helped for that with Shrewsbury able to survive only thanks to the few lucky narrow wins against the teams below them in the first few months of Hirst’s reign. In his first summer in charge coach Paul Hirst was informed that a major overhaul of the squad will be made. The Sallops parted ways with 17 players including some of their most important members. So far, only 10 new arrivals have been confirmed. This makes the squad very small and ill-prepared for the new campaign. Goalkeeper Marosi and the team’s captain and star defender Dunkley will be hard to replace. The top goalscorer Udoh will also be missed as he was the only reliable goal contributor last term. So far, only 2 young goalies have been signed. The back line is also still very thin. Have only 3 typical centre-backs on the books with 2 of them coming off serious injuries. Also, the only right-back in the squad is the recently signed Hoole. He also missed 7 months last term injured. Experienced Jack Price was signed late last season as a free agent. He’s expected to become the new main playmaker this term. Up front Bloxham is the only striker left with 3 new faces added. Considering how poor the scoring record was last term hopes are that Lloyd, Kayode and Marquis will find a way to be much more productive.

Target

The goal is to stay out of trouble. It will be hard to do so if they don’t start scoring more goals.
