Vejle’s first season back in the top flight was a solid one. Despite having the second-weakest attack (32 goals scored in 32 matches) Vejle survived as they had the third best defensive record in the entire Superliga (only 36 goals conceded in 32 games). Undoubtedly, the main reason for the survival was the Golden Boot winner for the 2023-24 campaign German Onugkha. The Russian scored 15 of his team’s 32 goals last term and if Vejle can keep him in their ranks this season they can expect similar returns. Coach Ivan Prelec favours a fluid 3-4-3 formation. He sends the wide players forward often when Vejle need goals but when the team is on the back foot this shape easily changes to a 5-4-1 one. Prelec is expected to stick to these tactics into the new season. The main departure so far this off-season was that of goalkeeper Nathan Trott. He was a great contributor the previous campaign and Vejle are still looking for a replacement. No other regulars have left so the backbone of the defence should remain the same. The team’s captain Raúl Albentosa might be 35-years-old but he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. The Spaniard once again will be the calming figure in defence. Vejle are expected to focus their main efforts on the defensive end. However, with Onugkha leading the line and veteran striker Anders Jacobsen now committing his future at the cub long term the hopes are that the team will score enough goals to achieve their goals.
