Football Season Guide

For a long time last season it looked as if Randers would get relegated. The Stallions finished the regular season in the bottom 3. However, their fortunes changed after the end of winter. The results from March onward were much better. Randers ended up winning Play-off II and they very nearly stole the last place in Europe from Copenhagen in the final play-off clash too. Lost this final match 1:2 but could have easily won. Coach Rasmus Bertelsen has to rebuild his core this summer. The main reason why Randers avoided relegation last season was striker Mohammed Fuseini. He came on loan only in the winter to score 9 goals in 15 games. He’s back to his parent club now. The other key figure in the spring was playmaker Lasso Coulibaly. He too has returned to his parent club. The team’s main goalie Patrik Carlgren and the starting right-back Mikkel Kallesøe also left. Paul Izzo comes from Australia to become the new starter on goal. Nikolas Dyhr was signed from the MLS as the likely new starter at right-back. In the meantime, up front Randers decided to sign the young striker Florian Danho. The hope is he will form a solid partnership with another African Stephen Odey up front and this will compensate for Fuseini’s departure. Coach Bertelsen used both 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 as his preferred formations last season. This summer though he’s been flirting with the lone striker option in the 4-4-1-1 shape. It seems Odey might be asked to lead the attack on his own in many games, especially on the road.
