Football Season Guide

After two seasons in the lower division Sonderjyske are back in the top flight. They won the First Division last term in emphatic style. Had the best scoring record and the best defensive one too (71:29). Secured their promotion two months before the end of the season. Of course, one of the main reasons for this success was the lethal striker Peter Christiansen who scored 17 goals in 22 games for Sonderjyske last season. However, with the promotion already in the bag the team cashed in on him back in March so he’s no longer in the squad. The good news is that no other regulars have left the club so far this summer. Søren Andreasen stepped up once Christiansen was sold and with his 10 league goals he showed he could be relied upon up front. Coach Thomas Nörgaard, in charge since December 2022, favours the 4-3-3 shape as his preferred formation. As no major new signings have been made so far this summer it seems the gaffer is happy to trust those that secured the convincing promotion heading into the new season too. This means that the French centre-back Maxime Soulas, the Macedonian duo Sefer Emini and Ivan Nikolov, plus strikers Mads Agger and Søren Andreasen will have to be at the top of their game again. The young Mexican winger José Gallegos also showed flashes of brilliance last term. If he continues his development as many expect he could become an x-factor for Sonderjyske this campaign. The confidence of the players is high right now. Sonderjyske will also have a distinct advantage in the early months of the season as synchrony shouldn’t be an issue.
