Viborg didn’t have the easiest of seasons last term. They lacked consistency throughout and had to make a managerial change in November. Jacob Friis left to join Augsburg’s managerial team. Jakob Poulsen replaced him and after a slow start in charge he steadied the ship once spring arrived. Viborg finished the regular season in the bottom half of the table. However, they missed out on winning Play-off II only by a single point. Had the most wins (11) of the 6 teams competing in the second play-off group. Now in his first proper pre-season camp coach Poulsen looks set to trust the same regulars as he did last spring. None of the regular starters from the previous campaign has left yet. No major new signings have been made either so the tactics and personnel used are likely to remain the same. Under Poulsen Viborg finally found a way to unleash the potential of their two brightest young talents. Striker Anosike Ementa became a key figure up front with his 8 league goals late in the season. The other player that flourished in the spring was teenager Mads Søndergaard. His playmaking skills impressed and he’s expected to continue to develop fast during the new campaign. Captain Jeppe Grønning is the only player in the squad over the age of 30 and his experience and calm presence is vital. His role as the main anchor-man allows Søndergaard and Mbom to venture forward often. Coach Poulsen likes to use the flanks a lot and he has rich options out wide. Wingers Jensen, Said, Thomas and Serginho will be in fierce battle all season for 2 starting spots. Full-backs Oliver Bundgaard and Srdjan Kuzmic are also encouraged to venture forward often. All that said Viborg had major issues on the road last season (3 wins, 3 draws and 10 defeats). They need to find a way to improve their away form and be smarter. On many occasions the desire to push forward hurt them in away matches. It will be up to the manager to figure out better tactical approach for Viborg when they are on the road.

Target

Hope to secure a top 6 finish this season. Have the squad to do so if everyone stays healthy.
