Arsenal improved on their third place 2015 finish by finishing in the Runners Up spot this season. However, the Gunners will most certainly view 2016 as a missed opportunity considering they finished ahead of all the other "Big Teams". The remarkable Leicester City story denied them what could have otherwise have been a title winning campaign. Arsenal were two points off the top spot at the half way point but faltered in the second half of the season and in the end were fortunate to finish second ahead of Tottenham Hotspur. In the end they were a massive ten points behind Leicester - despite beating them twice! Manager Arsene Wenger once again came under a lot of pressure as the season drew to a close with a lot of fans feeling it is time for him to move on. Mesut Ozil was once again one of their stand out performers, as was Alexis Sanchez despite the fact that at times he struggled to play to the high level he is capable of. Granit Xhaka has joined ahead of new season, with Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta on the way out.
