Football Season Review

№17: Barnsley

Barnsley boss Mark Robins was left a frustrated man at the end of this season, with the Tykes once again struggling for consistency in 2010/11. The South Yorkshire side have always been relatively strong on home soil at Oakwell, but away from home their soft underbelly continues to wreak havoc with their chances of a top half finish each and every campaign. As a result of potential budget cuts by the Barnsley board this summer, Robins parted company with the Reds at the end of the campaign, with Keith Hill arriving after working wonders at Rochdale. It promises to be a long season for the Tykes next term if they are unable to recruit the services of some players with former top flight experience. Loan striker Marlon Harewood arrived from Blackpool in the New Year and made a major impact with his pace and power endearing him to the Oakwell faithful. In truth, Barnsley failed to replace the departed winger Adam Hammill at any point. The signing of pacey wide man Danny Haynes could be a shrewd one over the coming months and years.
