Football Season Review

№23: Sheffield United

Sheffield United had a complete disaster of a season which saw them unexpectedly relegated after having four managers. The last of them Micky Adams saw the Blades relegated after attempting a rebuild job. United’s high wage earners did not turn up and were not helped by the disruption. In fact it was youngsters such as Harry Maguire and Jordan Slew who were left to help the side battle survival late in the season. Their form, and those of their peers, who made the final of the FA Youth Cup suggest the future is rosy. Danny Wilson, a former Sheffield Wednesday player and manager, has been appointed to lead the charge for a Championship return but that decision has not gone down too well with the fans who demonstrated against the board. Just 44 goals in the league was one of the major reasons for Sheffield United’s relegation and they will need to find another striker capable of firing them back to the second tier.
