Football Season Review

№8: Burnley

Burnley could not quite make the play-offs after relegation from the Premier League the previous season and were not helped by replacing Brian Laws with Eddie Howe from Bournemouth as manager half way through the season. And it was a run of just one point in six games in the business end of the season in March and April that did the damage. Burnley were once again most impressive at home with 12 wins at Turf Moor and it is clear that it is a ground not many teams like to visit. Chris Eagles was the star man with a number of sublime performances. He was joint top scorer (along with Jay Rodriguez) with 15 goals and also created many of the Clarets’ goals. Chris Iwelumo has failed to really settle at Turf Moor but had a bizarre record of scoring just one of his 11 goals away from home. Howe will want to bring more of his “own” men such as Marvin Bartley over the summer and a promotion bid next term may be in the offing.
