Football Season Review

Bristol City have had a wildly successful season that saw them win two trophies, as they have not only won the League One title, but also won the JP Trophy. The consistency that Steve Cotterill's men have displayed over the course of the season has been nothing short of remarkable, as they have lead the league during the vast majority of its course and did not have a single genuine crisis in form during the entire duration of the season. Things could have been different had Cotterill had less luck with injuries, as he did not have the biggest of squads to work with. The only genuine piece of injury problems that the Robins' boss had had came at the beginning of the calendar year, as he had starting strikers Aaron Wilbraham and Kieran Agard unavailable due to injuries. However, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has played some good football in their absence, while Cotterill also made the superb decision to sign Matt Smith on loan from Fulham, as the former Oldham man has enjoyed a superb time with the Robins and allowed Bristol City to keep marching towards the division title even without their two injured strikers. Cotterill's men ended their season with a 15-game unbeaten run and finished eight points clear of second-placed MK Dons, which speaks volumes about just how good they were. Moreover, their promotion was a result of a team effort more than a result of individual brilliance, with the best proof of this being the fact that, in an interesting move, the club named the entire squad as their player of the season. Our pick out of their numerous outstanding performers will be defender Aden Flint, who was not only a rock at the back all season, but also chipped in with some key goals and ended the season as their second-top scorer.
