Football Season Review

№13: Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster are coming from what can only be described as a disappointing season, as they rarely looked like pushing for a return to the Championship, and ended up finishing well short of finishing inside the top six. Paul Dickov has to take a lot of blame for his side's inability to secure a return to the second tier, as the occasions on which the Vikings managed to play according to their full potential were few and far between, but it also needs to be noted that the former Oldham boss has had his job made difficult by injuries, as nearly all of his side's regular starters have spent some time on the sidelines due to different injury problems. The Rovers have had their best spell of the season early in the calender year and lost only once in twelve games during this run, with these results seeing them move up to seventh in the table. However, it was as good as things got for them, as they gradually started to fade away and had their play-off hopes ended with four games to spare. Dickov certainly finds himself under pressure going into the summer break, but it currently seems that he will be given another chance to put things straight. It should not be forgotten that Dickov was also in charge of Doncaster in the 2013/14 season, which ended with their relegation to League One, and he seems to be extremely unlikely to keep his job if things do not start well for his side early next season.
