Football Season Review

№13: Bursaspor

The Crocodiles are happy for surviving in the Super League despite offering a bad performance in 2018. It could be said that their home run helped them to stay out of the relegation zone. In fact, they did a very good job until they faced Fenerbahce in December. When the 14th fixture was played, they were one of the strongest candidates for the Europa League spots. Then everything got worse and worse for them. Until March, they were unable to taste any victory. In particular, they were terrible on the road. During all season, they had to cope with many injuries. It prevented them from being consistent, especially in the midfield. That was the moment that their bad run started. During this period, they also faced a big pressure from the fans. After they were humiliated in Istanbul by Galatasaray, the fans went to the club facilities and protested against the team. The whole team got the message and defeated Kayseri with a single goal. It enabled them to end their 9-game winless league run. On the late fixtures, the board could not stand to work with coach Paul Le Guen anymore and his charge came to an end. Despite spending a bad season, there were some positive things for the Crocodiles. Young players including Ertugrul Ersoy and Furkan Soyalp got more experienced as they both acted as starters in 40 games totally. Bursa will be heading into the summer with many problems to be solved. The key play-maker Pablo Batalla already declared his departure. The current squad is too crowded. So they will have to part company with some players due to the financial situation. Of course, to bring a head coach is a must too. If they spend the summer usefully, they can return to top ten by using their potential.
