Football Season Review

№8: Kasimpasa

It could be said that Kasimpasa offered a great display in the Super League this season considering that the board had to cut a big amount of financial sources before the season’s kick-off. Because of that, their squad was short, but they could manage to finish among the top eight. They were unable to make a good start to the season as some authorities had foreseen. In the initial eight games, they could collect eight points and stood close to the relegation zone. After that, ten points in four games enabled them to take a deep breath. However, they could not offer stability till the end of season’s 1st part. Although they failed to collect enough points on the road, their home performances ensured them to survive at the top level and some extra victories enabled them to finish in a better place than they had expected. After they lost to Besiktas in January, the board decided to part company with coach Kemal Ozdes, but the club president appointed him back five days later. This could have been the key decision of the season, because they suffered only two defeats in the next ten games. They managed to improve their offensive performance with the great efforts of Trezeguet & Diagne, but they also offered a worse performance comparing to the previous two seasons. Considering that they reached the semi final in the Turkish Cup during the 2016/17 season, their elimination in the 5th round against a 1st division side was a big shock for them. The board have already declared that they are going to build a much stronger squad for the next season since their financial situation got better. Besides that, they have already come to an agreement with the main players of the current squad. If they manage to bring some quality players, they can manage to meet the fans’ expectations.
