Football Season Review

№18: Karabukspor

With only 12 points, Karabuk offered the worst performance in the Super League since MKE Ankaragucu during the 2011/12 season. Of course, the financial problems killed them tragically and they suffered lots of defeats in the season’s 2nd part as expected. They were struggling helplessly, but relegation was unavoidable for them. In fact, they kicked off the season well, collecting five points in the initial three games. They were close to the top places and all fans were very hopeful for their team. Then, they started to suffer the bad effects of their economical problems. As long as they lost, their concentration and self-confidence decreased rapidly. Before the winter break, the fans saw the board appoint the 3rd coach. The whole city saw the biggest shock in the winter break. Because of the debts, all players had not been paid for a long time. That is why most of them deserved to leave the team in January. Following their departures, their squad quality reached the very lowest level. At this point, the board needed to build a squad in order to keep on competing in the league. They added some players which were not at the level of the Super League. They were not expected to do anything in the rest of the season and that is what happened. After completely losing their survival hopes, they thought about using the remaining fixtures as a preparation for the next season and a decider about the squad, but these games were not helpful to them. According to the independent inspection reports, the huge amount of debts appeared because of the payments which brought no benefit to the club. It does not seem that Karabuk will be able to return into the Super League in a short term. First of all, they have to get rid of this debt. Then they need to bring quality to the team.
