Having been dumped out of the Europa League very early in the season, the general consensus was that Hull City would not have any major problems safeguarding their top flight status this season. On paper their squad looked capable of a mid-table finish, but their inability to put the ball in the back of the net, coupled with quite a few injuries, meant that the Tigers were always far too close to the drop zone for comfort. Goal difference kept them out of the bottom three at the half way point. Three defeats on the spin at the end of March and the beginning of April left them in big trouble, but they bounced back with two wins on the trot against Crystal Palace and Liverpool and were playing well. Three more consecutive defeats took matters out of their own hands come the final day of the season. Manager Steve Bruce is set to remain in charge for next season in the Championship and all involved with the club will be hoping they can come straight back up.
