Football Season Review

№8: Swansea City

Swansea City surprised most people this season. Garry Monk's first full season in charge will go down as a major success. The Swans finished the season an impressive eighth in the Premier League table - despite the fact that they lost key striker Wilfried Bony to Manchester City at the end of January. Monk's men made a steady start to the season and sat ninth in the table at the half way stage. The target according to Monk was to reach the forty point mark as quick as possible. Once that was achieved results slipped a little initially, but the Jacks got their act together again quickly and finished the season in fine form. They were even in the hunt for a Europa League place come May following three wins on the trot. Two defeats in their final two games of the season knocked that idea on the head - but in truth they probably did not want to contend with European football next season. Gylfi Sigurdsson was the standout player, providing important goals and assists. When not in the side they struggled a little for creativity.
