Football Season Review

№14: Leicester City

Having won the Championship in 2013/14, manager Nigel Pearson was expected to strengthen his squad considerably for the top flight, but in the end he was very restrained in the transfer market and there looked to be a distinct lack of Premier League experience in the squad prior to kick off. After a decent enough start, including a win against Manchester United, things very quickly went pear shaped. At the half way point the Foxes were bottom of the table having lost six of their previous seven games. Their poor form continued and at the beginning of April they looked all but certain to be relegated. That is when the Great Escape began with an incredible six wins in seven games. Prior to that run, they had managed just four wins all season long! In the end their top flight survival was achieved with a game to spare and they finished as high as fourteenth in the table. It was a truly remarkable turnaround. The addition of Robert Huth in February helped them look a lot more solid at the back, while Esteban Cambiasso and Leonardo Ulloa were also important players throughout the season.
