Jong PSV, PSV Eindhoven's reserve team, can't seal promotion to the Eredivisie, but that didn't stop them from recording impressive results throughout the season. First team players who failed to claim minutes in the Eredivisie joined Jong PSV from time to time, but Pascal Jansen's side mainly consisted of promising youngsters. The Eindhoven team wasn't expected to compete for the top spots at the start of the campaign, but their impressive start surprised the other clubs to say the least when Jong PSV claimed the top spot after five games. They even defended that position for seven weeks in succession, but they eventually failed to keep up with VVV-Venlo and Jong Ajax. The overall performances, especially at home, were more than decent though and the fourth spot after 38 matches was something to be proud of.
The home form was possibly the most surprising fact this season. Jong PSV recorded fifteen wins at home, which was the highest amount in the Jupiler League. The defence especially showed their qualities as the Eindhoven team only conceded seventeen goals in nineteen games, which is rather surprising as the back four mainly consisted of relatively inexperienced players.
Jong PSV provided the youngsters with a chance to show their qualities and some of them could make that last step towards the first team. Players like Sam Lammers (17 goals) and Albert Gudmundsson (18 goals) already made a name for themselves and the former even scored in the Eredivisie near the end of the season. Jong PSV will add some new youngsters to the team next season and repeating this fourth spot won't be easy at all, but the finishing position isn't the main mission. Delivering players like Gudmundsson and Lammers is and their performances will satisfy the club as they're now expected to join Phillip Cocu's Eredivisie team.
