Football Season Review

№7: Peterborough United

Peterborough started the season looking to end their pattern from the recent campaigns, which was to start the season strongly and tail off as time elapsed. Unfortunately for the Posh, it was more of the same for them this time around, as they led the league early on and were playing some superb football, especially on their travels. However, they were unable to maintain their bright start, with several players who were crucial early in the season, such as Matt Godden, Siriki Dembele and Jason Cummings, suffering major drops of form. Marcus Maddison, who did not feature early in the season due to being close to completing a transfer to Leeds, which never materialized, eventually got back into the side, and kept the Posh near the play-off places with moments of brilliance. Steve Evans was ultimately relieved of his duties and replaced by Darren Ferguson. It took Ferguson some time to steady the ship and the Posh entered the final round battling Doncaster for a play-off place, but were edged out by the Rovers. Ferguson, currently in his third spell in charge of Peterborough, signed a long-term contract near the end of the season and the Posh seem determined to finally find some stability and ultimately return to the Championship.
