Football Season Review

Accrington Stanley's promotion was the biggest surprise of the 2017/18 League Two campaign and John Coleman's men entered their first-ever season in the third tier with hopes of staying up. Their best football came early in the campaign - they were playing slick counter-attacking football that made them particularly dangerous on their travels and they spent the majority of the early stages of the season inside the play-off places. Unsurprisingly, they were unable to maintain their early season form and started sliding down the table, with a poor run they had around the turn of the year making it look like they could be dragged into the battle against the drop. Coleman eventually managed to steady the ship. Stanley's form improved a bit and they eventually managed to secure their survival with two games left to play. What awaits for the minnows is a difficult summer during which they will try to once again keep hold of their key man, while Coleman will more than likely be aware that his side are in need of strengthening. Stanley would have gone down if not for their superb early season form. They are second-from-bottom in the table on points collected over the last thirty games and will obviously need their momentum to change the next time around.
