Football Season Review

№10: Blackpool

Blackpool's season started in the worst possible way, as their highly-rated manager Gary Bowyer opted to resign from his post after only one competitive game. Things looked dour for the Tangerines following his departure, especially as the club has been plagued with off-field problems for years, with the board's unwillingness to invest rumoured to have been the reason for Bowyer's departure. However, Terry McPhillips did a remarkable job after taking over from Bowyer, initially as a caretaker and then as a permanent boss, and the Tangerines managed to stay well clear from the drop and even looked like pushing for a play-off place at certain moments. What made it impossible for Blackpool to finish inside the top six was their scoring problems, with Armand Gnanduillet, who scored ten goals, being their only player who managed to get into double figures. There is finally light at the end of the tunnel for the Tangerines' fans when it comes to their off-field issues. Court orders have forced their owners out of the club, with the club being put into receivership midway through the campaign. Blackpool are expected to receive new owners over the coming months, which is something their fans have been campaigning for for nearly a decade.
