Football Season Review

№8: Cardiff City

Russell Slade ultimately paid the price for failure to claim promotion. He was "moved upstairs" and replaced by Paul Trollope at the end of a season where he did as well as might have been expected. Cardiff really did not invest in their side all season so an overall 8th position must be regarded as a reasonably successful campaign. Cardiff were in with a good shout all the way to the penultimate game. Their home form was very impressive with 12 wins and only two defeats but it was their form on the road that was costly. A lack of consistency also proved to be costly. Cardiff's defence was definitely their strong suit with Matt Connolly and keeper David Marshall continuing to impress. Cardiff though never looked as good in attack. That appears the area in which Trollope needs to address if he is to turn Cardiff into a side that may compete again next term.
